EUROSEM FACULTY

KENT ALBRIGHT, a Kansas native, sensed the call to full-time ministry early in life. His father answered his own call as Kent was finishing high school, and Kent was subsequently involved in chartering a new church near Wichita. In Bible college, he surrendered to missionary service in Spain, and shortly thereafter met and married Connie Waters, a missionary kid from Spain. Nine short months later, as a result of viral pneumonia, Connie was graduated to heaven. Kent continued his education and completed two masters degrees, after which he took a summer missions trip to Spain. While there he met Belén, who had been saved through a missionary ministry, attended Calvary Baptist Institute in Madrid, and surrendered her life to missions in her own country. The two married in 1983 and ministered together at several churches in the States, including a Spanish-speaking ministry, while Kent taught Bible college classes and worked on a Th.M. In 1992, approved my Baptist Mid-Missions, Kent and Belén, with their two [then] small daughters in tow, arrived in Spain for their first term. They now live in Santa Marta de Tormes near Salamanca where they lead a church plant, conduct student ministries, and direct a Bible institute. As a means of gaining new avenues for evangelism and Christian cultural impact, Kent enrolled in the University of Salamanca. He hopes to become an adjunct instructor specializing in the history and distinctions of protestant evangelical Christianity in Spain.

BURDETTE BERGEN grew up in Muscatine, Iowa, until the summer before his senior year of high school when his family moved to Cedartown, Georgia. He counts that event as his first cross-cultural experience. He and his wife, Mary, whom he met in Bible college, now live in Germany and have three adult children. The Bergens are involved in church planting, outreach, and leadership training with Burdette traveling to teach in churches and Bible institutes at various locations in Germany and in neighboring countries. To put himself through seminary, Burdette worked at a state psychiatric hospital but would like it noted that he was indeed allowed to go home each night. In those early days he was known for being tall, skinny and dark-headed. He is still tall. And he likes to read.

ED CHRISTY was reared in Indianapolis, Indiana, and attended a church of liberal persuasion until college when a coworker invited him to church where he heard and responded to the gospel. A year later he transferred to a Christian college where, at an annual conference, he was impressed with the needs in France. His heart continued to grow in that direction as he pursued his education. In grad school he met his wife, Sylvia, and they have lived in France since 1990. They currently call Lormont home and have two children, one in college and one at home. In addition to being Director of EuroSem, Ed likes taking walks with his wife. He also enjoys sports, two in particular: baseball for the American in him, and football (that's soccer in American) for the Frenchman in him. It should be noted that Ed can handle just about anything in the classroom, having taught for five years in South Carolina prisons. He only has one regret about his experience – that he did not write a book.

RICHARD VISSER was drawn to the missionary life at an early age. As a kid in Indiana he came into contact with numerous furloughing missionaries as they came through his church. It was through these interactions he came to understand that missionaries were not unusual people. They were ordinary people who faithfully answered when God called. After high school, Richard went to Bible college, married his wife Karyn, went to college again, and again... and eventually arrived in France.

The Vissers now live in Algrange and serve as the resident staff at the Bible Institute. They have four children. Three reside in France while the fourth, a major in the U.S. Army, moves around quite a bit.
